“I am waiting with great interest for Josep Borrell’s announcement on the options for sanctions on Τurkey,” Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on Friday arriving at the Gumnich meeting of informal EU Foreign Affairs Council in Berlin.
Greece considers the announcements by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, “an absolute necessity in order to achieve de-escalation in the Mediterranean,” Dendias underlined.
“We have always relied on European solidarity,” he added referring to the atmosphere with his European counterparts on the issue of Turkey.

The meeting started on Thursday, and the decision for Turkey was postponed for Friday together with the one on Belarus. Greece has been saying that the EU cannot have double standards, sanction Belarus but not Turkey that has been permanently challenging Greece’s sovereign rights in the Aegean and the East Mediterranean Sea.
Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas said on Thursday that Borrell will present a list of sanctions against Turkey in case the country continues its delinquent actions.
