Main demand was the immediate compensation of 100% for all those affected by the bad weather “Janos” that hit and flooded the region on September 18, 2020, as well as complete restoration of the infrastructure and anti-flooding measures.

Dozens of locals, some together with their farming machinery gathered at the main square on the city in Central Greece, sending a sound message to the government in Athens.

The protesters reportedly urged the Prime Minister to immediately to proceed with his promise for compensations and restoration of the damages.

Speakers underlined that the damages did not occur “vaguely because of the extreme weather phenomena but as a result of shortages in infrastructure and essential measures to prohibit them.

According to media, 150 people have submitted housing request to local authorities, and over 3,000 businessmen have applied for compensation.

Four people lost their lives in the Ianos floods, thousands of acres of agricultural land came under water, corps were destroyed before the harvest and thousands of farming animals were drowned.
