Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued a Red Alert warning of a weather deterioration with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms locally intense that will be accompanied by hail and powerful winds reaching up to 8-9 Beaufort. The south winds will transfer Sahara Dust from North Africa.
The weather deterioration is forecast to set in in West and South-West on Tuesday evening, October 27, 2020.
The bad weather front will quickly sweep in the most regions in Greece on Wednesday, October 28.
Red Alert Analytically – Regions affected
Tue, Oct 27
As of Tuesday night: the Ionian Sea, the islands of the central and south Ionaina and possibly the south parts of Peloponnese.
Wed, Oct 28
Early morning hours of Wednesday: Peloponnese, Crete, gradually Sterea including Attica and Evia.
As of noon: Thessaly, Sporades, south parts of Epirus and the Cyclades islands.
As of afternoon: the Dodecanese and the islands of the North-Eastern Aegean Sea.
As of evening: Central and East Macedonia, Thrace.
Gradual weakening of the phenomena is expected as of Wednesday afternoon in the Ionian islands and west mainland, as of early morning hours of Thursday in central and south mainland and Crete, and as of Thursday afternoon (Oct 29) in the remaining regions.

Rainfall and storms in the East and the Aegean Sea in particular, where the phenomena will gradually weaken and be limited ot the Dodecanese.
Wind – Sahara Dust
Forecast are also powerful south winds reaching up to 8-9 Beaufort in the South Aegean Sea. The winds will trasnfer Sahara dust, particularly in the eastern and southern parts of the country, where its concentration will be high.
The bad weather front will be of short duration, however, meteorologist forecast large volume of rainfalls and thus in regions that were recently hit by torrential rains.
