Greece records 1,211 new coronavirus cases and 12 more deaths

Greece’s health authorities announced on Thursday evening 1,211 new coronavirus cases and the death of 12 Covid patients in 24 hours. There is also an increase in intubated Covid-19 patients, estimated 22 new intubations in the past 24 hours.

The 1,211 new cases have been detected with a lower than usual number of daily tests due to the national holiday on Wednesday. Among the new cases are also 38 travelers.

Total cases reached 35,510 and death toll rose to 615.

4 cancer patients and 15 personnel in oncology hospital Agios Savvas in Athens have tested positive to Covid-19.

Attica again tops the daily cases followed by Thessaloniki.

Residents of Thessaloniki lined up and waited for hours to undergo rapid tests on Thursday. Authorities said that over 5% of the tests were positive. Those positive on rapid tests must normally undergo also a PRC test for confirmation. Today’s results form Thessaloniki were not incorporated in the new daily cases.

Together with the regional unit of Larissa, Central Greece, and Rodopi, North-West Greece, authorities have placed the unit of Thessaloniki Tier 4 – Red Category – on Thursday evening. The restrictions go into force at 06:00 am Friday, October 30. 2020. At the same time another 8 regions change into higher Risk Level also on Firday morning. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said earlier today that a “one-month action plan” against the spread of the coronavirus will be announced tomorrow, Friday, Oct 30.

According to the official daily bulletin on Thursday, 4043 (11.4%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 12843 (36.2%) are related to already known infection case.

55.2% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 114 (new record!) from 108 a day earlier. Their average age is 65, among them are 34 women. 91.2% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

284 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Twelve more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 615.  Of the deceased 232 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.3% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 1043 (new record!) from 611 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,730,519.

Tests in the last 24 hours: just 12,069 with 10,43% (new record!) of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Daily growth at +3.5%

Of the 1211 new coronavirus cases, 47 are related to known clusters and 35 were detected at the country’s entry points.

35 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 3 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

  1. Must ask: do you, KTG, know why Karpathos is marked dark blue? Follow your reports daily since the spring but have never seen Karpathos mentioned. Does that island count under Rhodes?
