Greece coronavirus: 29 patients die in 24 hours, new cases surge to 2,917

29 Covid-19 patients died in Greece in the past 24 hours, breaking another milestone of daily deaths. It is the highest number ever recorded in the country since the outbreak in late February. Also the number of daily confirmed coronavirus cases hit a record on Thursday with 2,917. The number of currently intubated Covid-patients increased since Wednesday and reached 187.

Total cases reached 49,807 and death toll 702.

Professor for Infectious Diseases Sotiris Tsiodras said on Thursday that the number of people hospitalized with Covid-19 is 1,600.

Head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias said on Thursday that infections increased by 20% in the last 5 days, while in the same time hospitalizations increased by 36%, intubations by 34%, hospitalization in ICUs and Increased Care by 33%, while 55 more ICU beds were needed.”

The dramatic increase of infections, inubations and consequently deaths in the last 5 days forced the Greek government to impose a general lockdown as of November 7, 2020, and for three weeks.

Only essential movement and travel is permitted, citizens must send specific SMS messages to authorities. A number of businesses has to shut down.

According to the official daily bulletin on Thursday, 4303 (8.6%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 14879 (29.9%) are related to already known infection case.

54.5% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 187!!! from 179 a day earlier. Their average age is 66, among them are 43 women. 90.4% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

310 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Twenty-nine more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 702. Of the deceased 275 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.4% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 2044 !!! from 1043 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,876,471.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 23,176 with 12.59%!!! of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Daily growth at +6.2% – a new record!

Of the 2917 new coronavirus cases, 0 are related to known clusters and 27 were detected at the country’s entry points.

27 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 5 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.
