99 deaths in 24 hours, 2018 new coronavirus cases, 608 intubations

Greece’s health authorities announced on Thursday 2018 new coronavirus cases and 99 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-19 patients has increased to 608.

The total cases have reached 99,306 and death toll 2,001.

1,356 Covid-19 patients died in the month of November ( 1-26) alone.

Despite the decrease of daily reported cases, deaths are some 100 per day since November 21st.Among the latest fatalities are: one from age group 18-39 and 14 from age group 40-64.

At the same time, intubations keep rising at a steady pace, the hospitals in northern Greece have reached their capacity. The first 3 patients were airlifted from Drama to Athens on Thursday, another three are reportedly standby.

Given the current epidemiological situation, the government announced the extension of the lockdown for another week. Check also which regional units are most affected by the pandemic.

IN a last minute news it has been reported that 30 elderly residents in a care home in Kavala, northern Greece has been tested positive to Covid-19. Three of them were taken to hospital, where a 86-year-old died. It is the third elderly home across the country that belongs to a local metropolis where massive infections have been recorded.

According to the official daily bulletin on Thursday, 4851(4.9%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 25924 (26.1%) are related to already known infection case.

The remaining infections are without known source.

53.1% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 608 !!! from 597 a day earlier. Their average age is 65, among them are 166 women. 80.8% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

524 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

99 more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 2001. Of the deceased 806 (40.3%) were women. The average age of the deceased was 80 and 97.1% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 2012 from 2661 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 2,311,870

Tests in the last 24 hours: 21,211 with 9.51% of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Of the 2018 new coronavirus cases, 2 were detected at the country’s entry points.

2 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 0 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.
