Greece increases number of passengers in taxis, private cars

Greece is increasing the number of passengers in taxis and private vehicles as well as in trucks from Monday, January 25, 20201. According to a joint ministerial decision “”Emergency measures to protect public health from the risk of further spread of coronavirus COVID-19,” the number of passengers is raised to two(2) in addition to the driver.

According to an announcement by the Transport Ministry published late on Saturday, the increase refers to taxis, private cars, special lease cars etc.

The limit on the number of passengers can be reportedly exceeded in two cases only:

  1. minor children whose stay at home under adult supervision is impossible
  2. a person in need of assistance from a second person (passenger) for his transfer.

In vehicles with double cabins, mixed use and VAN types the number of passengers in addition to the driver increases to three (3). Allowed is to exceed this number only in case of minor children where undult supervision at home is impossible.

It is reportedly recalled that it is still valid that students who are served by taxi in non-urban areas, for their transfer to school, are allowed to travel up to four (4) people, upon presentation of a relevant certificate from the school principal.

The increase goes in effect from 06:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2021.
