Greece: New coronavirus cases surge to 941; another 22 deaths

New coronavirus cases surged to 941 in the last 24 hours, with the majority of them (526) be in Attica and Athens. Greece’s authorities announced on Friday also another 22 deaths, while  the number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country stands at 260.

Death toll has reached 5,764 and the total cases stand at 155,734.

At the live briefing on Friday, authorities announced tougher lockdown restrictions in the regional unit of Attica incl. Athens and in a series of municipalities in several other regions including two Cyclades islands. More information on the regions affected and the additional restrictions here.

Experts focused on the infections increase in Attica that rose by 45% within a week.

Active cases in Attica are 2,800.

Infections: Rolling weekly at 625 per day

Capacity in Covid-19 ICU: 61%

Health experts warned that February will be a more “difficult month” due to the weather conditions.

According to the official daily bulletin 5927(3.8%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 48600(63.9%) are related to already known infection case.

The remaining infections are without known source.

52.1% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 260 from 268 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them are 193(74.2%) men. 85.8% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

1,099 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 22 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 5764. Of the deceased 3388(58.8%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.5% of them had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 676 from 463 last week.

Total tests since 1. Jan 2020 are 3,087,133 PCR and 1,003,740 Rapid Ag tests

PRC Tests in last 24 hours: 27,286 (!)  

Rapid tests last 24 hours: 18,095

Positivity PCR+Rapid tests: 2.07%

Rt: 0.88 ( 0.87 previous week)

Daily growth at +0.6%

Of the 941 new coronavirus cases, 17 were detected at the country’s entry points.

17 of the new cases were detected at entry points, plus 6 more travelers were already in the country.

The remaining cases are:
