Greece’s health authorities announced a record number of daily coronavirus deaths and a record in intubations on Thursday evening. 104 people died of Covid-19 complications in the last 24 hour. The number of intubated patients has reached 819. New confirmed cases amounted to 3,833.
Death toll has reached 9,239. Total confirmed infections since the begin of the pandemic 308,006.
The numbers are a shock – at least for people and media – as the current public debate is whether the restrictions for inter-regional travel will be lifted during the Easter holidays three weeks later.

British Variant prevails
The British variant of SARS-CoV-2 has spread in the country and according to latest sampling out of 1,212 samples in the time February 3 – April 3:
Variants of VOC were detected in 957 samples and 140 samples are Variants under Investigation-VUI.

According to the official bulletin on Thursday, based on the confirmed cases on the last 7 days, 60 are related to travel abroad and 2636 are related to already known cases.
The released data do not allow any more the clues about the rate of infections without known source of contamination.
51.3% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated coroinavirus patients stands at 819 from 809 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them 62.9% are men. 84.9% have underlying health problems and/or are aged over 70.
New admissions of Covid-19 patients to hospitals are 526 (daily change -6.41%) in the last 24 hours. Average number of hospital admissions in 7 days: 515.
Average age of infected is 44 ( age range 0.2-105).
1925 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 104 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 9,239. The average age of the deceased was 79 (age range 16-103). and 95.7% had underlying health problem and/or was over 70 years old.
