Greece records 3067 new coronavirus cases, 91 deaths, 824 intubations

The number of intubated Covid-19 patients increased further to 824 in the past 24 hours and 91 people lost their lives due to coronavirus complications in the same time. Greece’s health authorities announced on Friday that 3,067 new cases have been confirmed across the country.

Death toll has reached 9,330. Total confirmed infections since the begin of the pandemic 311,033.

Live Briefing

At the Live Briefing on Friday, health authorities said that the epidemiological indicators appear stabilized, however, this does not mean that the danger is gone.

26,000 active cases there are currently across the country, said Vana Papaevangelou, professor for children epidemiology..

Average new infections stand at 2,800, while average daily tests are 54,000.

Positivity rate has decreased to 5.3%, while it was between 6.1 and 6.4 in the previous days. Despite the decrease, the epidemiological load remains high in the country.

Three regions are a cause of concern for the health experts due to increase of epidemiological load: Kilkis, Rethymno and Thassos island.

Coronavirus transmission within the families and spread inside the home and outdoors is big.

ICU occupancy is at 86% across the country and at 91% in Athens and Thessaloniki.

The number of deaths is high and will remain high also next week.

The epidemiologists’ committee is to examine the opening of activities per region and not horizontal, according to the epidemiological data.

Head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias updated the coronavirus map and listed the regions and municipalities that enter or exit the “very high risk” level. More details on a separate post.
