Daily coronavirus infections reached a new high on Tuesday with 3,789 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours. Greece’s health authorities announced that 87 more patients died of Covid-19 complications. the number of intubated patients stands at 847 as a day earlier.
Death toll has reached 9,627. Total confirmed infections since the begin of the pandemic 320,629.
Pressure on the healthcare systems remains high especially iin Athens and Attica. One hundred intubated Covid-patients were waiting for a bed in ICUs in several hospitals at 1:30 Tuesday noon, doctors posted on social media, citing information from the lists for transfers of the ambulance service EKAV.

Viral load in sewage
Significant upward trends have been were observed in the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in the urban wastewater of three of the 11 areas controlled by the National Epidemiology Network of EODY, during the week of April 12-18 compared to the week of April 5-11.
Specifically, a significant increase was observed in Rethymno (+ 120%), in the Attica Region (+ 171%) and in Agios Nikolaos (+ 360%), with the viral load of wastewater in the Attica Region and Rethymnon returning to previous high levels.
Marginal changes occur in Patras (-30%), Thessaloniki (-21%) and Chania (+ 16%), while the load remains virtually constant in the cities of Larissa, Volos, Heraklio, Xanthi and Alexandroupolis , where the reduction of viral load in wastewater ranges from -10% to + 7%.

According to the official bulletin on Tuesday, based on the confirmed cases on the last 7 days, 50 are related to travel abroad and 2960 are related to already known cases.
The released data do not allow any more the clues about the rate of infections without known source of contamination.
51.3% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated coroinavirus patients stands at 847 from 847 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them 61.4% are men. 85.5% have underlying health problems and/or are aged over 70.
New admissions of Covid-19 patients to hospitals are 406 (daily change -13.25%) in the last 24 hours. Average number of hospital admissions in 7 days: 502.
Average age of infected is 44 ( age range 0.2-105).
1963 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 87 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 9,627. The average age of the deceased was 79 (age range 16-103). and 95.7% had underlying health problem and/or was over 70 years old.
