A newborn baby was found abandoned in a field in Aspropyrgos area in western Attica on Monday morning. The baby was discovered by a woman who heard the baby crying while she was walking there.
The baby girl was wrapped in a blanket and had the umbilical cord still on.
The woman who located the newborn immediately notified the police that rushed to the spot.
An ambulance took the baby to Children’s Hospital in Athens, where doctors examined it and found it was in good health despite the hardship it faced in the first minutes of its life.
Police does not rule out the possibility that the mother gave birth in the field and on the spot where the baby was found.
Police is conducting investigation in the houses nearby and in the settlements of the region, the prosecutor has been informed.
