Greece’s health authorities announced on Wednesday evening 2,293 new coronavirus cases and 53 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients has slightly increased to 642.

At the Live Briefing on Wednesday, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that the highest epidemiological load is currently in western Greece, Attica, Thessaly and southern Aegean, while an increase has been recorded in northern Aegean, Ionian islands, Crete and Epirus.
The average daily infections last week were 2,240 and the median patients’ age 39 years old, “for the first time below 40.”
Positivity rate is 3,8%, while the number of active cases across the country is 21,136.
State broadcaster ERT reported earlier today that the number of Covid-patients in hospitals is 3,000.
Citing data from Our World in Data, Kikilias said Greece is 4th top among the EU’s 27 regarding vaccinations after Malta, Cyprus and Luxembourg.
With 16.1% of population to have concluded vaccination, Greece ranks top 5th among the EU’s 27.

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 383,558 infections (daily change: +0.7%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 34 infections are related to travel from abroad and 2210 to other confirmed cases.
51.2% of the infected are men.
There are 53 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of pandemic victims to 11,587. Of these, 95.5% had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.
A total of 642 Covid-patients -from 639 a day earlier – are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 67 years. 62.6% are men. 83% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.
2,312 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.
305 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: -8.68%). The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 317.
The median age of new infections is 44 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 79 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).
