“Weddings with music but without dance,” rules Greece’s surrealism

Yes to music in restaurants and entertainment facilities and wedding receptions but no dance, Deputy Development  Nikos Papathanasis said on Friday morning, just a day before the lifting of further restrictions goes into force.

The minister told state broadcaster ERT that allowing music in restaurant and at receptions, in the context of lifting the restrictive measures, concerns seated customers/guests. “In any cases, there is no dance,” he stressed.

He pointed out that there may be an live orchestra for music in the entertainment venue or at wedding, baptisms etc receptions where the maximum number of guests per table is set to 8.

He said that he considered the increase of number of guests to 300 from July 1 as “sufficient.”

Papathanassis said further that every lifting of restriction “makes sense” and stressed that the night curfew – from 1:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. – will be completely lifted at the end of the month.

“At the moment, infectious disease specialists tell us that we must adhere to this roadmap,” the minister said. He added schedule that the pandemic is still here and excessive relaxation is not allowed as long as there are still intubated” Covid-patients in the hospitals ICUs.

PS Greek wedding with music but without dance. I want to see this! The rule nust be “invented” by the same guys who ruled “double face mask at gyms.”

  1. You have to be kidding me?! You can have up to 300 guests at your wedding but still no gatherings in homes? Music and no dancing? What a joke.

  2. Are we allowed to dance without music?

  3. No dancing seems a bit extreme, however! yes it’s understandable at the moment, but surely the bride and groom should be allowed their first dance at least? more-so because it is tradition at every wedding. It’s supposed to be the best and most memorable day of their lives. Yes it will be memorable, but just not the same without traditional first dance with her new husband and then with their parents.

    • Well the bride & groom may as well dance. They’re going to be doing a lot more later!

  4. Yep, that’ll work. Perhaps they should order the Sun not to rise tomorrow as well.

    • It would be more useful if they could pass a law prohibiting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Actually, I would tell people to vote for Mitsotakis if he managed to control the weather 🙂

  5. Why there is even any restriction? Everyone who wanted had their chance to get vaccinated. Other people are fine with the risks.

  6. How about dancing allowed with double face masks and straitjackets (to prevent any touching)?

Zoe…How I wish your comment “Why there is even any restriction? Everyone who wanted had their chance to get vaccinated”…..My husband and I are STILL waiting for AMKA numbers. I have called the US Embassy and told them we were having a problem. I was told to be patient. My husband is Greek went to US at age 18…became an American Citizen when serving in the Army… and we came here four years ago because he is a Vietnam Veteran and ill and wanted to return here to this beautiful Country to rest. For those who tell us “Go Home” and get vaccinated…he is not capable of wearing a mask for 20 plus hours to get back to Boston. I think that the Greek Government should just open up ALL vaccinations for the elderly. Just show your ID or Residence Permit and get vaccinated…because the system in place now is just not working
