Authorities in the Prefecture of Chania on the island of Crete has launched a huge search operation to locate 29-year-old French tourist Gigano Violet who has been missing since June 24, the day she had last spoken with her family in France. She was planning to visit Elafonisi.

Upon request of her family a Missing Alert has been issued.
Violet Gigano is 1.48 m tall, has black hair and blue eyes, and a spot on her back between the shoulders.

Violet Gigano arrived on the island on June 21 for a week vacations alone. She checked-in in a hotel in Paliochora, cretapost.gr reported adding that she had a daily presence on social media where she posted pictures form her daily tours.
According to local media flashnews.gr, the 29-year-old last contacted her parents in France on June 24, saying that she intends to visit Elafonissi. She has given no sign of her since then. .
Her parents were concerned and informed the French authorities, who in turn informed the Greek authorities and signaled the start of investigations involving firefighters from Kissamos, police and volunteer rescuers.
Citing police sources, cretalive.gr reported that the woman was scheduled to leave Crete for France on June 28. This, however, did not happen, a fact that intensified concerns about her fate.
Wednesday morning rescuers located her car in the area of Krios/Selinos and they suggest that she left it there in order to walk to Elafonisi.
A GPS device and a suitcase were found in the trunk of her vehicle, according to state broadcaster ERT. The findings are being examined by authorities.
Authorities and rescuers reportedly use drones and a trained dog, while in the search operation participate teams from the police, the port authorities, the fire service and volunteers who ‘comb’ the whole area from Paleochora to Elafonisi.
