Greece records 1,465 new coronavirus cases; 5 deaths; geographic distribution

Greece’s health authorities announced on Sunday 1,465 new coronavirus cases and 5 deaths in the past 24 hours. The number of intubated in hospitals ICUs stands at 142.

The first case of Delta variant has been detected in a woman in Xanthi, north-eastern Greece. The woman had reportedly return from vacations on the island of Crete where the specific Covid-19 variant has been detected in several people. The woman as mild symptoms and is not hospitalized, media report.

Over 50 children in five summer camps across the country have been tested positive to Covid-19 in the last few days, state broadcaster ERT reported on Sunday afternoon. Affected are the summer camps in Lavrio (Attica), Ilia (Peloponnese), Sofiko (Corith), Chana (Crete) and Haklidiki (central Macedonia). there are a few infections among workers in the camps as well.

Total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic: 438,809 (daily change +0.3%) of which 51.2% were men.

Based on the number of confirmed cases in the last seven days, 161 are considered linked to travel from abroad and 1,966 are linked to an already known case.

Of the intubated patients 142 in ICUs, 67.6% are men, while their median age was 66 years old. 85.9% have either an underlying disease or are aged over 70.

5 patients died and raised the number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 12,792. Of them 95.2% had either an underlying condition or were aged above 70 years old.

2,736 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic start.

65 new hospital admissions showed a daily rate of change of -4.41% with the rolling average for admissions in the last seven days at 61.

The median age of new cases was 42 and the median age of people that died was 78 (ranging from 0.2 to 106 years old in each case).

Of the 1465 new coronavirus cases, 11 were detected at the country’s entry gates and 21 among travelers already in the country.
