Health Minister Vassilis Kikkilias announced on Wednesday that 5 million citizens have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in Greece. According to official data, the number of fully vaccinated people in the country stands at 5,044,409 on Wednesday morning.
“Today, we are breaking the benchmark of 5 million fully vaccinated citizens. We keep on going,” minister Kikkilias said in a post on his social media account.

According to official emvolio.gov.gr, the number of people who have received a first jab awaiting for the second one are some 640,000.
The government tries to boost vaccinations aiming to reach a herd immunity of 75%-80% by the end of August.
As the upcoming month is traditional the month of summer vacations in the country, the government has been said to consider “vaccinations without previous appointment” for this month.
On Monday, Greece said children aged 12-15 could be vaccinated against the virus with Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna shots, extending the inoculations of adolescents that began this month as infections continue to rise.
Currently citizens in Greece who are over 15 can receive vaccinations against Covid-19.
The question is now how the government will convince the other 50% of the some 10 million population to proceed to a vaccination center and get a jab.
