Coronavirus cases spike to 4,206, intubations rise to 258; geo distribution

Greece’s health authorities announced on Tuesday 4,206 coronavirus cases and 16 Covid-related deaths in the last 24hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals Intensive Care Units increased further to 258.

The increase in daily infections is usual after a relative decrease over the weekends, however, the spike in touristic destinations, islands and Crete, is alarming.

State media speak of pressure on the Greek health care system. 15 out of 16 ICU beds in PAGNI hospital in Heraklio, Crete, are occupied, state broadcaster ERT reported on Tuesday evening.

A nurse at a public hospital in Crete submitted a fake “positive” Covid-19 with the purpose to avoid the mandatory vaccination. Authorities ordered an internal investigation.
