Thirteen children and infants are treated for Covid-19 in Athens hospitals

A total of thirteen are the children and infants are treated with coronavirus in the Children’s Hospitals “Aglaia Kyriakou” and “Agia Sofia” in Athens. The case of an intubated  12-year-old boy is causing concern.

At the same time, the admission of newborns to the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of the two hospitals has increased.

Six children are being treated in “Aglaia Kyriakou”, while in “Agia Sofia” are three children and four newborns.

The intubation of a 12-year-old child in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of “Aglaia Kyriakou” has caused particular concern.

The boy was initially admitted to the hospital for treatment of cerebral emphysema. When doctors considered his intubation as necessary and a Covid-19 test was carried out as part of the standard procedure the test turned positive to the virus, media reported.

No information on whether all the 13 children and infants are residents of Athens or were transferred to Greek capital from other regions.
