2,343 coronavirus cases, 8.58% of intubated fully vaccinated; distribution

Greece’s health authorities announced on Monday 2,343 new coronavirus cases and 19 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals Intensive Care Units increased further to 338.

Still on Monday the number of PCR and Rapid tests are almost half than during regular working days due to the weekend.

At the Live Briefing on Monday, health authorities said that 91.2% of the intubated Covid-patients are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 8.58% were fully vaccinated.

Chairwoman of the National Vaccination Committee Maria Theodoridou urged parents to have their children vaccinated in order to be protected and return to their normal activities.

Theodoridou stressed that infections among children have increased and said that while children were infected at 7.5% in May 2021, the rate increased to 20% in July.

She created some confusion when she said that Greece is awaiting for the approval by the European Medicines Authority in order to proceed with the 3rd jab of vaccination for all over 60 years old.

Last week, Greek health officials said that the platform for appointments for the 3rd dose for immune-compromized citizens would open this week. she did not clarify whether authorities will wait for the EMA recommendation also for this groups of people.

Theodoridou also said that citizens should not wait for a 3rd dose that will include the Covid-19 variants as the development of such a vaccine will take a lot of time.

Some ten days ago, CEO of Pfizer Albert Bourla said that such a vaccine would need 3 months.
