Greece’s health authorities announced on Thursday 2,170 new coronavirus cases and 43 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospital Intensive Care Units decreased to 384.
At the Live Briefing on Thursday, health officials warned that they expect a dramatic increase of infections due to the school opening on Sept 13. The increase will be due to the big number of rapid tests unvaccinated students will have to carry out, the officials clarified.
They predicted that infections among students will decrease by November.
One in four Lyceum students has been vaccinated with the 1st dose, while in Gymnasium the rate of vaccinations is 13%. [Note: comparing the famous Greek statistics is a definite challenge, isn’t it?]
Regarding the vaccination of health workers, deputy health minister Mina Gaga said that:
2.1% of doctors, that is 447 out of 21,000 in total and 2,700 out of 40,000 nursing personnel in total were unvaccinated.
