Professor Theoklis Zaoutis has been appointed the new president of the National Public Health Organization (EODY) by the Greek Health Ministry on Tuesday.
.Theoklis Zaoutis, MD, MSCE, PhD, is Professor of Pediatrics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Professor of Epidemiology at Perelman Medical School of the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he was head of the Infections Department from 2014 to 2018.
He received most of his medical education in the United States, with the exception of his doctorate, which he completed at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
In 2015 he was one of the two finalists for the position of Director of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has been a member of the National Committee for the Protection of Public Health against the coronavirus COVID-19 of the Health Ministry.
After a meeting with Zaoutis, health minister Thanos Plevis said that he is looking forward to cooperate with the professor who has long experience in the fight of epidemics.
The previous EODY president, Panagiotis Arkoumaneas, resigned beginning of the week and is allegedly heading to Tourism Ministry.
Another useless government toady, pretending to be a serious scientist when all his recent publications are with titles like “Persuading populations to be vaccinated” and “Research into why people are refusing the Covid-19 vaccine”. And a PhD from a Greek university is not worth the paper it is printed on.
