Greece: 2,249 coronavirus cases, 30 deaths, 335 intubations; distribution

Greece’s health authorities announced on Thursday 2,249 new coronavirus cases and 30 deaths in the past 24 hours. The number intubated Covid-patients in hospital Intensive Care Units decreased to 335.

At the weekly Live Briefing on Thursday, health authorities announced that the online platform for citizens over 50 to make vaccination appointments for the booster shot (3rd dose) will open on Sunday, October 10, 2021. They noted that the booster shot is due six months after the full vaccination.

Ahead of the new “freedoms” to start on upcoming Saturday, authorities urged vaccinated citizens ( of course, also unvaccinated ones) to keep wearing masks and comply with social distancing and hygiene measures.

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 671,040 infections (daily change: +0.3%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 114 infections are related to travel abroad and 3216 to other confirmed cases.

50.9% of the infected are men.

There are 30 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the total of pandemic victims 15.042. Of these, 95.4% had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.

Light blue: intubations pink: deaths

A total of 335 Covid-patients – from 347 a day earlier – are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 66 years. 61.5% are men. 80% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.

According to EODY among the intubated patients:

294 (87.76%) are unvaccinated or partly vaccinated

41 (12.24%) are fully vaccinated

According to EODY, intubated Covid-patients based on age group are:

  • 0-17  :   0
  • 18-39: 11
  • 40-64: 137
  • 65+  : 187

3,202 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

206 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: +6.19%). The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 167.

The median age of new infections is 39 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 78 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).

Of the 2,249  new cases, 6 were detected at the entrance gates of the country and 8 among travelers already in the country.
