An earthquake rattled the island of Kefalonia with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale. It occurred short before 3:30 p.m on Friday afternoon.
According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, its epicenter was 17 km West of Argostoli, the capital of the island.
It focal depth was at 15.5 km.
There are no immediate reports of injuries or damages.
The earthquake was felt also on the mainland of western Greece and other islands on the Ionian Sea.
Head of the Geodynamic Insitute,
Akis Tselentis, posted on social media that there seems no reason of concern, however, seismologists are monitoring the seismic activity.
He added that due to the small focal depth and the proximity to Argostoli, the earthquake was particularly felt.
According to local media, the earthquake that stroke Kefalonia was accompanied by a strong noise.
