Greece Civil Aviation issues new Covid-instructions for flight passengers

Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced on Sunday the new flight instructions with the conditions of entry into Greece to limit the spread of COVID-19 disease. The new instructions exclude vaccinated passengers with European Digital Covid Certificate from manadoty covid-test.

The new flight instructions are valid from Monday, February 7, until Monday, February 21, 2022.

According to the relevant air directive (notam) arrivals in Greece are allowed, without the obligation of a negative test, for all passengers coming from the Member States of the European Union (EU) and the Schengen Agreement, as well as from the 33 non-EU countries that have joined the digital system European Union Digital Covid Certificate (EUDCC).

Overseas flight instructions provide the following:

Mandatory PLF completion for all passengers: All travelers to Greece, regardless of nationality, fill in the electronic form PLF (Passenger Locator Form), at the electronic address https://travel.gov.gr any time before the departure of the flight to Greece. The proof of completion of the PLF electronic form, which is automatically sent by e-mail to the passenger by the system, is considered a necessary travel document.

Travelers with European Digital Certificate COVID-19 without arrival test:

Entry of travelers from the Member States of the European Union (EU) and the Schengen Agreement, as well as from the 33 non-EU countries that have acceded to the European Union Digital Covid Certificate, ie the following: San Marino, Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Vatican, North Macedonia, Georgia, Switzerland, El Salvador, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Lebanon, Morocco, Montenegro, Moldova, Monaco, Norway, New Zealand, Ukraine, Uruguay, Panama, Cape Verde, Serbia, Singapore, Thailand, Togo, Turkey, Tunisia, Faroe Islands, and Chinese Tapei (which is not recognised as a state by Greece), is allowed by the demonstration of a European Digital Certificate COVID-19, which contains information on one of the following:

a) Vaccination certificate valid for 9 months after the completion of the basic vaccination and without time limit for travelers who have received the booster dose.
b) Certificate of illness lasting up to 180 days.
c) Certificate of negative result, with the PCR method within 72 hours or alternatively, with a negative diagnosis from a rapid test that has been performed at most 24 hours before their arrival in Greece.

With a negative test, entry into Greece regardless of vaccination for all other travelers:

All travelers to Greece, except EU countries and the Schengen Agreement, as well as the 33 non-EU countries that have acceded to the EU COVID-19 digital certification system, including their spouses, or persons with whom they have entered into a cohabitation agreement, and their minor children, regardless of their vaccination status, must have been diagnosed negative in a test by PCR within the last 72 hours or alternatively have been diagnosed negative in a rapid test within 24 hours before their arrival in Greece.

Checks on children from 5 years and over:

The obligation of the conditions for entry in Greece is valid for children from five (5) years and over.
Traveler sampling and temporary limitation of 5 days in case of a positive result.

In addition to all international passengers, a sample check (PCR or rapid test) will be performed upon arrival, based on the procedure provided by the Passenger Locator Form. In case the passenger tests positive, he will be placed in quarantine / isolation for 5 days, at home or in a suitable place of temporary residence indicated by the competent authorities. The temporary restriction starts from the day after he is diagnosed with a positive COVID-19 test result.

After 5 days and if he has no symptoms, or the symptoms have improved with complete remission of the fever for 24 hours without the use of medicine, the temporary restriction expires. If the fever persists after 5 days, the temporary restriction is extended until the fever has completely subsided. These passengers are required to wear only a high respiratory protection mask (FFP2 or N95) or alternatively a double mask (surgical and fabric) for at least another 5 days from the end of the restriction. All foreign passengers must faithfully follow the instructions of the health authorities of our country.

The use of a mask is mandatory:

At arrivals and departures areas inside the airports, as well as during flights, staff and passengers are required to wear a protective mask. Passengers are also required to comply with the instructions of the permanent and temporary staff of airports or airlines, who are in charge of the duties of supervision, crowd management and assistance to passengers, in order to maintain the necessary distances and avoid overcrowding.

The airlines are obliged to check the traveler before boarding, in order to confirm that he has the necessary documents, and in case of violation they have the obligation to repatriate the passenger at their own risk and expense.

  1. The paragraph on mask wearing in the airport and on the flight does not make it clear if this needs to be an FFP2/N95 mask or if a simple surgical mask is sufficient. Anybody know?
