Greece’s epidemiologists’ committee is meeting on Wednesday to review the latest pandemic data considering further lifting of coronavirus protection measures following relevant requests by the government. One of them refers to abolish the Covid-Pass even short before Easter.
Scientists are reportedly expected to have a fist discussion on the issue and for the time being, there doesn’t seem to be an absolute agreement between the members of the government and the health experts, notes healthreport.gr

At the same time, daily infections remain well over 20,000 and reinfections reached already 90,000 in the first months of 2022.
On Monday, daily infections rose again to 23,529 by 9,234 PCR and 94,746 RAPID tests and positivity at 22.63%
At the briefing on Monday, Alternate Health Minister Mina Gaga conveyed the message that the coronavirus pandemic has not gone away and that people must remain vigilant.
“We have to learn to live with this new reality. We have to be careful and stick to the measures,” she stressed.
At the same briefing, member of the committee and professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases Vana Papaevangelou said that the Omicron Mutation and its Omicron 2 variant may be milder than other coronavirus strains, but they appear to cause very frequently re-infections.
She cited recent EODY data according to which 90,000 reinfections occurred since the beginning of 2022.
She added that re-infection is usually recorded over a period of 8 months and that the median age of the re-infected was 27 years.
Papaevangelou said that the Omicron mutation has reduced the effectiveness of vaccines for re-infection and has now reached 62%.
Despite the infections and re-infections numbers, government and scientists focus on the impact of the pandemic on the health system and that is what it counts for them..
“We believe that if this situation continues, ie Covid does not provide many and serious treatments, as in late 2021 and early 2022, we will continue to relax the measures,” Health Minister Thanos Plevris has said.
