Greece’s Epidemiologists Committee decided on Thursday to recommend the suspension of Covid-Pass and European Digital Covid-Certificate (EUDCC) from May 1, 2022. The suspension affects vaccinated and unvaccinated citizens in the country but also tourists arriving in Greece.
Details will be clarified in the forthcoming joint ministerial decision. But roughly seen is that vaccinated and unvaccinated citizens and tourists will gain access to indoor spaces of restaurants, cafes, bars and other entertainment venues as well as retail shops without having to show a vaccination or recovery certificate or a negative Rapid test.
According to media, the members of the Committee unanimously recommended:
– Suspension of Covid-Pass (vaccination or recovery certificate) from May 1 and return to venues capacity to 100%.
– Suspension of the European Digital Covid Certificate EUDCC at the country’s entry gates.
– 1 Rapid test per week (instead of two, so far) for unvaccinated workers, with the exception of hospitals and seniors’ nursing homes where the Rapid tests remain 2 per week for unvaccinated workers.
– 1 Rapid test (instead of two, so far) for unvaccinated teachers and faculty members. Further clarifications by the Education Ministry are expected.
The Health Ministry announced that the Commission’s proposal is accepted by the Government and the details will be clarified in the forthcoming joint ministerial decision to be published in the official gazette before May 1.
Accordingly will be also the flight directive by the Greek Civil Aviation Authority.
Note that the mandatory use of mask indoors remain in force also in May and that Health Minister Thanos Plevris said earlier on Thursday, that the plan to lift the measure as of June 1 will much depend on the course of the pandemic. Details here on KTG.
The country’s epidemiologists recommended on Thursday the use of mask also outdoors where there is crowding.
Greece has seen a significant decrease of daily infections in the last four weeks, however, daily cases remain over 7,000 in the average and health experts want to see the impact of the Easter holidays before they decide for lifting of the mask indoors.
Even if the measure is lifted, the mask will most likely continue to be mandatory in public transport and health facilities.
