The opening of retail stores in a Sunday in November has turned into a Greek …thriller for frustration resistant nerves.
The Development Ministry has initially decided to boost the market on Sunday, November 6, 2022. The project was cancelled due to storm EVA and decided instead that stores ill open on November 13.
Alas! The ministry discovered that the traditional Athens Classic Marathon takes place on Nov 13, with many traffic restrictions and roads closed to traffic until 5 o’ clock in the afternoon.
In this sense, it cancelled the November 13 today, Wednesday, and retail stores will ultimately open on Sunday, November 27, two days after the Black Friday.
It is not known whether the offers and discounts planned by the stores for “Black Friday” will also apply over the weekend, media report.
“The General Secretariat of Trade and Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Development and Investments informs the consumer public that commercial stores will remain closed on Sunday, November 13, but will be open on Sunday, November 27, with optional opening hours from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.”.
It is clarified that the stores operation on Sunday is optional and not mandatory.
The regulation for a Sunday in November came after the abolition of intermediate sales periods, during which shops were allowed to open on the first Sunday in November.
Anyway, ahead of Christmas season 2022, one should note that retail stores and supermarkets are scheduled to be open on following Sundays:
November 27, 2022
December 11, 2022 – The penultimate Sunday before Christmas
December 18, 2022 – Last Sunday before Christmas
