Two Athens metro stations closed due to train crash protest rally

Athens metro stations “Syntagma” and “Panepistimio” have been shut down since 10:30 Sunday morning due to protest rallies in downtown.

The trains will pass through the two stations without stopping. They will open again upon a police order.

The protest rallies start at 12 o’ clock noon.

Public sector union ADEDY and communist party union PAME have called for the rallies demanding that the train collision tragedy in Tempi will not be covered up, all those responsible be brought to justice and the required security measures will be taken.

Calls have also been made by student associations, students and trade unions.

Protests will be held also in Thessaloniki, Larissa, Heraklion, Chania and other cities.

It is recalled that train workers have been striking since the train crash.

Note that private sector union umbrella GSEE has announced a 24-hour strike on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
