A 26-year-old tourist from Great Britain was struck and killed by a lightning, while he was swimming on the island of Rhodes early afternoon Monday.
The man was in the sea area of Agia Agatha and incident occurred short before 2 o’ clock
During the rain the young tourist was in the water on a SUP paddle-board.
Despite appeals by his girl friend, other tourists and beach-goers to get out of the water, he kept on paddling, local media reported.
Then he was struck by the lightning.
A ambulance was immediately notified and rushed to the scene. With the help of other bathers, the man was taken to land where rescuers fought to keep him alive.
He was transferred to Archangelos Health Center, where doctors continued the struggle to bring him back to life, but it was too late.
The Central Port Authority of Rhodes was informed about the incident and will carry out an investigation into this tragic incident.
Some media reported that the UK tourist was 23 years old.
