Police has arrested a 35-year-old man for the brutal murder of transgender woman Ana Ivankova from Cuba in her apartment in Athens beginning of the month.
According to police, the man, a national of Bangladesh, had a relationship with the 45-year-old Ana. Fingerprints, DNA material and a pair of scissors the man used to stab the transgender woman were found in the victim’s apartment in Agios Panteleimonas district of Athens.
Ana had reportedly over 15 stabs in the body and multiple head injuries and it looks as if Ana fought for her life.
Ana’s body was found in her ground-floor apartment by her landlady, who went to collect the rent on July 10, 2023.
Following the leads, police arrested the Bangladeshi on Wednesday in his apartment and will be brought to a prosecutor.
Ana Ivankova had been living in Greece for the last four years, was working in a popular nightclub and was active in the movement for the transgender people’s rights.
