Locals are angry and prepare to sue all those responsible for not warning them in due time.
According to official information, for some “unknown reason”oil was found on the road surface near the open-air municipality theater. Through some rupture of the central pipeline most probably the oil passed into the central water pipeline of the city of Zakynthos.
However, as residents complain, instead of stopping the water supply immediately on Thursday afternoon, water supply was provided still on Friday, despite the fact that residents had complained accordingly the previous day.
It should be noted that Zakynthos does not have a non-stop water supply, but the households have tanks in which they store the water provided by the municipality at regular intervals. This means that it is very likely that specialized tank cleaning will be required in homes, local news website imerazante.gr pointed out.
President of water company DEVAZ, Dionysis Tourkakis issued a statement on Friday informing the residents about the taken actions and even warning them that water supply in the city will be interrupted for one week.
“We ask all citizens to avoid any use of water. Apologizing for the inconvenience, we remain at the disposal of the citizens for any help and information with a view to serving them and public health.” the statement said among others.
According to an exclusive report by imerazante.gr on Saturday morning, frustrated and angry residents of the city of Zakynthos plan to file a lawsuit against everyone responsible for “criminal negligence”, since, as they say, those responsible continued to supply water through the network while they knew from the afternoon of the previous day (Thursday, January 11) that one part of the network has a serious problem with the oil leakage.
