Greek Police arrested three persons on Wednesday as suspects for the assassinations of alleged members of the criminal organization known as the “Greek Mafia”. The suspects were led to public prosecutor on Thursday.
Two of the suspects, men aged 29 and 39, were arrested in the afternoon, while the third on in the evening during police raids on a residence where cartridges for Kalashnikov rifles were found.
It is not yet clear whether the third individual arrested was involved in committing the murders or was an associate of those who carried out the killings.
It was a fingerprint on a motorbike that led to the arrests, media reported.
Worth noting that the suspects were arrested not in connection with the execution of the 44-year-old fuel station owner and prominent Greek Mafia member in Neos Kosmos district of Athens in the early morning hours of Sunday.
They are suspected to have been into the murders of two toehr prominent members of the Greek Mafia, Yiannis Skaftouros and Vassili Roumoetis in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
Citing police sources, media reported that a total of eight persons are included in the case file. Two of them are believed to have fled abroad, one is sought by police in the country, while another two are imprisoned in Greece.
The members of the group are facing charges for participation in a criminal organization, three homicides and three attempted murders.
In official statements by Greek Police on Thursday afternoon, high-ranking officers stated that:
-Seven people have been identified as members of the organization and the involvement of at least 10 more people is being investigated, while the list of cases in which the members of the organization are allegedly involved is long and revealing.
-The team members come mostly from countries of the former Soviet Union.
-The majority of the members have been involved in the past in criminal acts like robbery, extortion, theft, forgery, etc.
During police searches confiscated have been three handguns, a revolver, a number of magazines, a number of mobile phones and a mobile signal jamming system.
