Bomb in office of Appeals President in Thessaloniki courthouse

A suspicious package in the courthouse of Thessaloniki, northern Greece, prompting its evacuation early Monday afternoon. The package contained a bomb that was neutralized on the spot.

The envelope was found in the office of the President of the Appeals judges. who also evaluated the package as suspicious and alerted the authorities in charge.

Immediately the building was evacuated, a bomb disposal police team with a specially trained dog to detect explosives arrived at the scene.

The parcel was taken to the x-rays machines at the building entrance where it was found that it contained a bomb.

The device was neutralized on the spot.

The envelope contained a serious amount of gelignite – or else jelly dynamite=  and the bomb was trapped so that it would explode as soon as the recipient opened the package,” reported daily ethnos.gr.

According to media, police investigates whether the judge has received threats in the past and the case files she is currently dealing with.

Preliminary investigation is carried out by the Sub-Directorate of Department  Dealing with Special Violent Crimes of Thessaloniki.

No further details have been made known.
