Ships and ferries throughout Greece will remain docked at the country’s port on Wednesday, April 17 following a decision by the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation to join the 24-hour nationwide strike called by the Confederation of Employees of Greece (ADEDY).
Central demands of the strike are action to deal with inflation and ensure the right conditions for a decent standard of living.
“Greece seamen, due to the peculiarities of the naval profession, are among the first who come up against the repercussions of high prices because they are the only ones who work, at best, five or six months a year to support themselves and their families for the whole year,” the Seamen Federation said in a statement.
The Federation also stressed the very low unemployment benefits received by sailors.
