New Democracy MP, Angeliki Delikari, got slapped by another woman during the Sunday mass in a church in Kavala, northern Greece, on Sunday morning.
The attacker is a European elections candidate of Niki, a religious-conservative party with seats in Parliament.
She came close and hit me with all her strength, MP Delikari told media.
Local media proininews.gr , everything happened on Sunday morning inside the church of Agios Konstantinos and Eleni in the Poulideio nursing home, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, when a woman approached MP Aggeliki Delikaris, started to insult her and swear against the marriage of same-sex couple and ultimately slapped her.
The MP reacted cool, while those present disapproved of the perpetrator.
According to proini.gr, the incident started after the priest mentioned the presence of the MP. Then the woman started shouting, citing the same-sex couple law, and finally slapped the MP.
Ruling ND issued a statement unequivocally condemning the attack, stressing that “behavior of hatred and division cannot have anything to do with faith and religion”.
Party Niki reacted immediately and “confirmed the suspension of the attacker’s party membership and her immediate referral to the Disciplinary Committee of the party with a question of the woman’s expulsion.”
