A wildfire broke out on the island of Paros on Monday and thus near the area of Pyrgaki. Strong winds blowing in the area with intensity of up to 8 Beaufort make the work of firefighter to extinguish the blaze extremely difficult.

As the fire front is moving towards houses, residents of the area received at 5:40 p.m. a Civil Protection message via emergency line <112> to evacuate in the direction of the beach of Paroikia.

Seventeen firefighters with six vehicles are currently actively engaged in combating the fire, while there are considerations to deploy fire fighting aerial means before the sunset, even thought conditions are difficult due to the strong winds.
