A 49-year-old man, victim of domestic violence, received a so-called Panic Button after he complained to Police in Chania, Crete, that he was assaulted by his 47-year-old wife.
The man who arrived in panic at the city’s police station, asked for and received a Panic Button for his protection.
He explained to the officers what had happened at the house, however, no further information about the assault has been made public, local media reported.
Later on Friday, media report, however, that the incident took place late on Thursday, July 4, and that the man complained that during an argument, his wife threatened him with a kitchen knife and thus in front of their minor child.
The victim installed the Panic Button application on his mobile phone, but he did not accept the police offer to move into a safe house.
His 47-year-old wife has been arrested and the case is expected to go to court.
However, also the victim has been detained after his wife filed a complaint that he smashed her mobile phone.
Police sources from Crete told media that the complaint of the 49-year-old husband is not the only one in which a man appears as the victim.
While the majority of domestic violence affects women who seek help at the local police stations there are also cases like the one above, where desperate men also ask for help.
