Authorities received over 1,000 citizens’ complaints about zoning violations on beaches within five days, it was reported on Monday.
The complaints were filed by citizens through telephone (400 calls) and the MyCoast app.
Authorities reportedly conducted inspections of 14 beaches across the country that received most of the complaints and found multiple violations, resulting in fines.
From the audits carried out, it emerged that the overall picture on the beaches granted for business activity is clearly better than in previous years, noted enikos.gr.
However, from a part of the businesses that were inspected, violations were found ranging from the absence of signage to excesses of the occupied space by additional umbrellas and sunbeds and other constructions.
In addition, 3 companies were sealed because they did not have a concession contract.
A total of 350,000 euros in fines were imposed on businesses where zoning violations were found.
According to the Ministry of Economy, inspections will be increased in the coming weeks, while drones will monitor beaches in the Cyclades and Dodecanese for zoning violations.
You think businessmen care about the fines or inspections?

Imposing fines for beach violations is all well and good but when and how will those fines be collected?
