Three of them, a 59-year-old man and two boys aged 12 and 16, were reportedly injured and transferred to the hospital of Halkida with ambulances. Their injuries are not life threatening and there is not cause for concern.

According to initial information, the truck veered off course for unknown reasons and crashed on the track and the train.

However, passengers testified that the collision occurred when one of the truck’s tire – which was moving on the road near the tracks – burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, fall onto the train tracks and stop. Subsequently, the train running the route collided with the vehicle.

Six firefighters with three vehicles rushed to the area in order to assist in the evacuation of the passengers.

Buses have been arranged to transport the passengers away from the scene.

Following the accident, the train services between Oinoi and Halkida have been suspended.

Local media evima.gr reported that kilometer-long queues have formed on the main road with vehicles moving at very low speeds.

The truck driver was arrested and first of all was tested for consumption of alcohol and other substances.
