Greece’s “Lord of the Rings” Lefteris Petrounias wins Bronze in Paris Olympic Games

The Greek “Lord of the Rings”, Lefteris Pretounias, won his third Olympic Games medal on Sunday.

With an excellent performance that granted him 15,100 points, Petrounias won Bronze in the rings finals of the Olympic Games in Paris.

At the Bercy stadium and after a highly competitive race, the Greek champion executed an even program with a difficulty score of 6.300 that resulted in an execution performance of 8.800, the highest in an official match in 2024.

The 33-year-old athlete became the first Greek gymnast with three Olympic medals and the all-time world leader in the medal table in this event, after the Gold he had in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and the Bronze in Tokyo in 2021.

The first two places were occupied by the Chinese Yang Liu (Gold medal) and Yingguan Zhu (Silver), who collected 15.300 and 15.233 points respectively.

Speaking to state ERT TV, Petrounias said he was aware that he made two mistakes but this will not stop him from continuing. He added that he will take a break to be with his wife and his two little daughters and he will return to training with new strength.

Today’s medal of Petrounias is the overall seventh Olympic in the modern history of Greek gymnastics. Demosthenes Tabakos had won two medals, the gold in Athens in 2004 and the silver in Sydney (2000), also in rings.
