Greek track & field athlete tested positive for banned substance

A Greek track and field athlete has tested positive for a banned substance, the  Greek Olympic Committee announced on Monday afternoon. The woman has been temporary suspended until the results of the second mandatory test are out.

The athlete has already competed in a qualifier in her event but did not advance to the final of her event. She was notified of the positive test by the Hellenic Anti-Doping Agency (EOKAN).

EOKAΝ has issued an immediate temporary suspension, and the Greek Olympic Committee has requested the athlete’s removal from the Olympic Village.

If the examination of the second sample is also positive the athlete will be punished.

The positive sample is the second one found in an athlete of Team Hellas in the track sports.

According to news website news247.gr, earlier on Monday a Greek athlete publicly admitted with statements that “three days ago something was found in my urine, which was made of meat.”

She reassured that she has never taken any proteins or supplements in her life.

She attributed the substance which she claimed it is “a substance for animals development” and “is apparently found in red meats, poultry, lamb, pork, that is, everything”.

She attributed the positive sample to meat she ate while in Holland for a competition and said that the test was done on July 10.

” I ate it at 7 pm, because that’s the only day I can think of eating something from the grill that I didn’t know what it was,” she said.

At the moment, it has not been confirmed that the athlete who made these statement is the specific one suspended today.

The athlete’s name has not been officially released.
