A 55-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after he was caught by a secret security camera to sexually abuse an 84-year-old woman suffering from dementia. The secret camera were installed in the victim’s bedroom by her son.
The arrested man is the husband of the caretaker of the victim.
According to preliminary information, the bedridden victim was living alone in her home in Orhomenos town of Viotia.
The incident took place, on Sunday afternoon, the 56-year-old victim’s son brought immediately the footage to local Police.
The perpetrator, an Albanian national, has been captured on video entering the victim’s home while the caretaker was absent.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the perpetrator entered the single-family house, went to the elderly woman’s bedroom and performed lewd acts and gestures on the sleeping woman.
The victim’s son saw his mother’s sexual abuse on live on his mobile phone as he had installed a camera in her bedroom. He immediately informed the police and the Livadeia security team, in cooperation with the policemen of Orchomenos, located the alleged perpetrator at his house and handcuffed him.
In the presence of a prosecutor, his home was searched, where the clothes he was wearing at the time of the sexual assault were found, while his mobile phone was also confiscated. The 56-year-old confessed to his actions, and testified that this is what came to his mind at the time and that’s what he did and apologized.
Police are investigating whether he had harassed the 84-year-old woman also in the past.
The man was arrested today, Tuesday, and was brought to Livadia District Court prosecutor.
A case file for the rape of a woman with physical and mental disability has been filed.
The victim’s son had apparently hints that his mother has been sexually abused and therefore he installed the secret camera.
