With a big military parade in Thessaloniki and students’ parades in Athens and other cities Greeks celebrated the Ochi Day, the No Day, the day they resisted to the powers of Axis and entered the second World War.

The parade is the culmination of events in Greece’s second biggest city with Thessaloniki’s triple celebrations of the feast of Saint Dimitrious, the city’s patron saint, the liberation of the city and the October 28 national holiday.

All mainstream media report of the military parade with titles such as “Awe and Pride” and “Chills”, while the usual mean Greeks claim on social media that “parades are outdated.”

It was dictator Ioannis Metaxas who apparently said No – OXI– to an Italian ultimatum for the country to surrender to the forces of the Axis.
In contrast to other countries, Greece celebrates the beginning of the war and not the end.
