Black Friday fines of €2.2mln to 14 companies for misleading advertising

Greece’s Development Ministry has fined a total of 2.2 million euros on 14 companies for misleading advertising in the run-up to Black Friday.

The business’ evasive practices were identified by the ministry’s auditing service using a digital tool.

Five of the 14 companies have been named as Kosmos Sport SA (€500,000 fine); Attica Department Stores (€400,000), La Vie en Rose (€300,000), Notos Com Participation (€200,000) and Sneakers Market (€55,000), kathimerini reported..

The process of notifying the remaining nine companies is pending but their names will also be made public in all but two cases where the fine is below €50,000.

The ministry said that among its main priorities “is to support of healthy entrepreneurship, the proper functioning of the market through free competition and the protection of consumers.”
