The seismic sequence in the sea area of Anydros between Santorini and Amorgos is showing a recession, as the two Committees (the Permanent Scientific Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment and Reduction of Seismic Risk and the Permanent Scientific Committee for Monitoring the Hellenic Volcanic Arc) said during their meeting on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
At the same time, it was decided that schools will remain closed until Friday 28 February 2025 on Thera, Ios, Anafi and Amorgos. Possible opening of the schools in due time will be reviewed at the next joint meeting of the Committees.
The Committees also found that the seismic activity within the caldera remains at the same levels, while a reduction in the rate of ground deformation is observed in the wider area of Santorini, which is continuously monitored.
The preventive measures remain also in effect until the committees decide otherwise.
