Strike schedule of Public Transport & Taxis in Athens

Three days before the 24-hour general strike and the rallies to commemorate the 57 victims of the Tempi tragedy on 28. February 2023, workers at public transport means in Greek capital Athens have announced their participation in the mobilization.

According to latest information early Tuesday evening (February 25, 2025) the following transport means will hold 24-hour strikes or work stoppages to facilitate citizens who want to join the big rally at Syntagma Square.

Bus and trolleybus workers have declared a 24-hour strike on Friday. The Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA) Workers’ Union and the Trolleybus (ILPAP) Workers’ Union are calling on their members to join the gathering at Syntagma Square.

Fixed-track transport means, that is the Metro, the Tram and the Urban Train ISAP will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday

The Attica Taxi owners Union has announced a 24-hour strike on Friday, “as a minimal tribute to the memory of the 57 victims,” the union’s board said in a statement.

The taxi strike will start at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, and last until 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.

The union of Taxi drivers in Athens and Attica will join the action as well and have posted on social media that they will facilitate demonstrators to join the big rally at Syntagma Square with “volunteers drivers” and “free of charge” because they “felt the need to show solidarity.”

The points where these taxis will be available are still to be listed by the union.

Greece is on 24-hour general strike alert as the mobilization is huge and is expected to paralyze the country on Friday, 28. February 2025, on the second anniversary of the Tempi train tragedy. Strike sectors details here on KTG.

Over 300 rallies will take place throughout the country and abroad to commemorate the 57 victims of the train collision and demand Justice, exactly two years after the disaster.

  1. Why nobody is anymore referring to the enormous disaster of the fire in Mati, where about 110 persons were killed, burned or drowned?
    Apart from all the losses of properties. NOT ANYONE WAS IMPACTED FOR THIS JUGE TRAGEDY?? Claiming the train accident.. it’s only 2 years ago… Mati is already in its 6th year? A BIG SHAME, without any accountability until today?😡

    • Ask ND who promoted Police, Fire Service high-ranking officials when it won the power in 2019. On the sidenote: there is a big difference between the two disasters
