High-school students and teachers as well as university students rallied in Athens and other major Greek cities on Friday demanding “Justice” for the 57 victims of the train disaster in Tempi in February 2023.
In Athens, protesters gathered outside the Athens University and marched to the Parliament at Syntagma Square.

They chanted “Murderers! Murderers!”

Outside the Parliament, they held a minute of silence and launched a sit-in protest.
Inside the Parliament, lawmakers held a debate on the censure motion tabled by four opposition parties against the conservative government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis over the handling of the Tempi case and investigation as well grave omissions in the modernization of the railway system.

Citing police sources, media reported that police detained 23 protesters. In control checks before the protest rally, officers arrested 5 people, among them 3 minors and two 20-year-olds, for procession of one knife, one hammer, one smoke flare and cannabis.

Two metro stations, Syntagma and Panepistimio, were closed at 10 a.m. because of the protests, with trains passing through them without stopping.
Unions are expected to hold another demonstration outside parliament in the afternoon
Protests were also held in Thessaloniki, Patra, Heraklio and other cities.
Another protest is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday outside the Parliament in Athens organized by labor centers, federations and unions.
The censure motion voting will take place later on Friday.
