“Fires ban” across Greece due to weather conditions

The Ministry of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis imposed a ban on outdoors fires throughout Greece due to strong winds, high temperatures and an increased number of fires in recent days.

The fire ban is in effect from March 12 until March 17, 2025.

According to an announcement by the ministry, yesterday alone (March 11), more than 70 fires broke out across the country, mainly caused by the burning of crop residues.

The burning ban – as well as the corresponding penalties according to the provisions provided for – is already in force.

The ban will last until next Tuesday, March 18, due to dangerous meteorological conditions – high temperatures and very strong, possibly stormy winds – that will prevail for the above period, the ministry stressed in its statement.

It should be noted that normally the fires season is between May/June and October.

Meteorologists forecast temperatures at 10-15 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average and strong southern winds. Details on weather forecast HERE on KTG.
