Greece’s public sector to launch 24h strike on April 9

Greece’s public sector unions federation ADEDY has announced a nationwide 24-hour strike scheduled for April 9, 2025. According to information, the private sector unions umbrella is also planning a 24-hour strike on the same day.

According to a federation announcement, the main demands are the reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries as well as real increases in salaries.

While the government has recently hinted to possible reinstatement of 13th and 14th salaries in the public sector, the governor of the Bank of Greece has ruled it out today, Monday. These two extra salaries are Christmas and Easter/Vacations bonuses. they were cut in 2011 following demand of the country’s lenders in the context of the first bailout agreement.

Meanwhile, also the private sector trade union federation GSEE is planning a nationwide 24-hour strike on the same day to protest inflation, housing crisis and the absence of collective bargaining to allow wages increases.
